So here goes…my first blog post. I decided it was time I move with the times and that some of you may want to hear a bit more about what goes on behind the scenes at Every Cloud.
I recently reviewed the most popular cakes of 2018 on Facebook based on post engagements and the cake I made for Alexanders bar and restaurant to help them to celebrate their 1st birthday was the one which came out on top. Here’s a little insight into making of the cake.
Back in late June 2018, I was contacted by the Head Chef at Alexanders to ask if I would take on the task of making their 1st birthday cake for their celebrations at the end of July. I was delighted to accept and we quickly set about coming up with a design in fitting with the Alexander’s brand. Having visited Alexanders on number of occasions socially, I immediately had a vision in mind for the design and it was really reassuring to find that this matched Struan’s ideas almost exactly. We both felt that the cake need to encompass the Alexander’s branding of bright green palm leaves and gold and that it needed to include their logo. Struan also asked for their signature pineapple to be included somewhere. I put a sketch together and sent it through (I did attempt to find a copy, but you will pleased to know that I was unable to as my drawing skills are pitiful)
Fast forward to the few days leading up to the party and the baking and decoration of the 3-tiered creation began. The middle tier was to have the palm leaf detail and I took the opportunity to hand paint a cake for the very first time. To say I was nervous was an understatement, but I set about the task at hand and was delighted with the outcome. This job never ceases to offer up new challenges on a daily basis and it is so satisfying and fulfilling when I manage to achieve them.
This was the end result!
